For Chimney Sweeps

It is essential chimney maintenance to sweep at least once a year to avoid chimney build-up which is a fire hazard, check out HETAS website or NACS.

Building Regulations (HETAS Regulations)

Work relating to fireplaces, stoves, ranges or any chimney work (eg lining) must be carried out to Part J building regulations. We are HETAS registered which means we issued a certificate to show that this work has been carried out to meet those requirements. If no HETAS fitter is used you can apply to your local council's building control department for Part J regulations, which must be inspected and approved by them for a fee.

DEFRA for smoke exempt (SE) areas

Find out if your area is a smoke control one. This means if you purchase a stove a Smoke Exempt (SE) model will be required. Under the Clean Air Act local authorities may declare the whole or part of the district of the authority to be a smoke control area. It is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace or from any fixed boiler if located in a designated smoke control area. It is also an offence to acquire an "unauthorised fuel" for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an "exempt" appliance ("exempted" from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area). The current maximum level of fine is £1,000 for each offence. The stoves we provide have some options on this which will legally meet with the DEFRA requirements.

Flue Liners, Parts, Twin Wall Flue and Adapters

We also Supply and Fit Flexible flue liner and twin wall flue systems. 904 (20 year warranty) and 316 (10 year warranty) grades. Most stoves works from a 6 inch diameter flue pie, but some stoves such as smoke exemt (SE) models only require a 5 inch flue diameter) We supply and fit all the necessary fittings such as flue pipes (most common sizes 5 & 6 inch diameter). Flue systems, particulary twin wall contain a lot of components and fittings which are necessary to comply with the building regulations. Unless you are fully conversant with all the parts you need, it may be better for you to purchase you flue from us and we can advise you on exactly what you need for your system. Also if we are fitting the flue liner, we do insist, from a quality control point of view and signing off to part J Building regulations and providing certification that we only fit the flue we supply. Some flue liners that are cheap are not CE approved. We always use bona fide suppliers of flue systems to ensure they are safety approved.
